Apostles’ Fast –Monday 15th June to Sunday 28th June
After much feasting over the period of Eastertide and indeed a full week of feasting during this week of the Holy Spirit, as I write, we move into a relatively short time of fasting in preparation for the feast of the Holy, glorious and all-praised leaders of the Apostles, Peter and Paul on Mon. 29th June.
Let us do our best to keep this fast.
Tuesday 30 June.
The Synaxis of the Holy, glorious, and all-praised Twelve Apostles, is our feast day. The Holy Liturgy will be served at 10.30am.
Patronal Feast- Sunday 5th July
Today we celebrate our feast day with a barbecue at Church after the Holy Liturgy.
Christos Gaitatzis is organising the feast. Your special savoury dishes and salads to accompany the meat will be very welcome as well as yummy desserts! Remember to bring drinks, too. Invite family and friends- the more the merrier!
We normally pay around £5 per adult, in advance if possible.
A raffle will be held to boost church funds: prizes for the raffle can be brought over the coming weeks e.g. a bottle of wine, chocolates, toiletries, or whatever you choose.
If you are green-fingered and have some young plants for sale, this would be a good day to bring them. Home-made cakes and preserves always sell well, too.
Catechism class
A number of people have expressed interest in learning more about the Holy Orthodox Faith. The class begins Thursday 18th June at 6pm. Classes will initially run for 6 weeks. Vespers follows as usual at 7pm.
Greek School
Christos Gaitatzis plans to begin lessons for both young people and adults. Have a word with Christos if you would like to try learning some Greek.
11am start for Holy Liturgy
Since Pascha we have begun the Liturgy at the later time of 11am. We have found that more people are in Church at the beginning of the Liturgy so perhaps this is a better time. We welcome your comments about this. Coffee time: an opportunity to catch up with your friends. It’s also an opportunity to get to know visitors and more recent members of our Community. So go on, have a chat to someone you don’t know very well! Let’s make everyone feel welcome.
Suggestions box
It was decided at the recent board meeting to have a suggestions box for anyone to place their ideas, suggestions, and comments regarding any aspects of our Church. Alternatively, talk to one of the committee members- they don’t bite!
Decoration of the hall
Work will begin shortly on repainting the hall- a big job! Can you give some time to roll a paint roller up and down for a few hours, during the day or in the evening? Your help will be much appreciated.
On completion of the painting, we plan to have work done to improve the surface of the floor in the hall. We need to make the hall more attractive so that we can earn some rent from public bookings, which will assist in paying off our outstanding loans on the purchase of our church.
If you wish to use the hall for a function, speak to our Chairman, Gregory. The rent is reasonable!
